Commodores Report

We have been blessed with perfect sailing conditions over the past couple of Wednesdays and weekends. Those who got out on the water felt fortunate. The puzzling thing is how many boats stayed in the marina – our fleet numbers could certainly be better. I have been reflecting on this and do appreciate there isn’t one single reason for this.  I’d like to remind boat owners of the Crew Matching function on the sign-on app. It does take some effort to take on new crew, and it can take a while to find crew who “gel”, but it is all worth it in the end. Even if you already have a full crew, consider welcoming someone new on board. There are many aspiring sailors keen to share in the joys of our sport. I learned to sail as an adult myself, mainly from sailing on lots of boats with generous skippers. Before I knew it, I was a useful crew member. There is an article in this newsletter about the Crew Matching function or via this link

I’d also like to alert you to two events coming up at the club, which will be of broader interest (whether you are a sailor yourself or not).

This coming Friday 23 Feb there is a talk by Peter Cook, an experienced maritime security practitioner with a fascinating international career. I am looking forward to his stories. This evening is a fundraiser for Sailing Lifts Your Spirits, and it’s great that Peter has donated his time and expertise to support our Charity. Only $10 to secure a ticket. Tickets available at https://www.trybooking.com/COWDG.

Then the following Friday 1 March is an exciting opportunity to meet aspiring Olympic sailors in the members bar for their fundraising night. As members you can attend for free – drop by for a short time or stay for the evening to hear the panel discussion – or buy raffle tickets ahead of time for some great prizes. More information further down in this newsletter.

Lots happening at our club – it’s yours to enjoy.
