The sailors' club

In a premier location alongside Brighton Pier on picturesque Port Phillip, Royal Brighton Yacht Club is one of Melbourne’s first Clubs, with a proud history stretching back to its’ establishment in 1875. The Club is firmly dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing with active programs in racing, cruising, women’s, youth and junior sailing. From absolute beginners to experienced sailors, or if you merely wish to enjoy the Club’s hospitality and facilities on a social basis, you are warmly invited to join Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

You are invited to join Royal Brighton Yacht Club to sail, swim or just enjoy our great facilities. We have a range of membership options to suit you.

Senior members

Have all the privileges of membership, and access to all services – on site parking, gym, sauna, steamroom. This is for you if you want to keep a boat in the marina or on the hardstand, or actively participate in all Club activities. You can also join as a family (please contact the office for information on this category of membership). 

Crew members

Entitles you to sail on any boat and participate in our sailing programs and all social activities. 

Crew Plus membership gives you access to our beachfront fully equipped gym as well.  



Intermediate members

Is for all young adults aged 18 – 29. Gym access is allowed upon request.

Youth members

Is for all our young sailors below the age of 18. It allows you to participate in our Club training programs and store your dinghy at the Club.


Are unique to Royal Brighton Yacht Club. This is for you, if you want to swim in the open waters of Port Phillip or further afield with a likeminded group of very social people. 

Gym and Social Members

Gym members enjoy use of our modern fully equipped gymnasium, steamroom and sauna.

Social Members enjoy the Members’ Lounge, 10% off food and drinks and reciprocal right with other clubs.

How to apply

  1. Fill out the appropriate application form. 
  2. Proposer and seconder – have two senior members propose and second your application. If you don’t know any senior members, we will help you find someone to support your application. (New Icebergers require a Senior Member who is also part of the Iceberger group to propose and second their application form)
  3. Ratification – your membership application will be displayed on the notice board and your nomination ratified at the next General Committee meeting.
  4. New members will be emailed a welcome pack.
  5. Fees and keys collection – after General Committee approve your application for membership, you will be sent an invoice. After payment, your key(s) will be ready to collect at the Club’s main reception
