Footy Tipping R6

Hi everyone,

We had 5 close games this week and one very concerning mental health issue on the field during the Blues vs Magpies game.

In the close finishes, Carlton lost another game (88-83) to the old enemy, Collingwood, in all too familiar fashion. The Blues led by 3 goals at the final change, but the Maggies quickly erased the deficit in the final term, hit the front and hung on for a five-point win. Another Carlton fade-out was overshadowed by the on-field play of the Blues’ Elijah Hollands, who struggled throughout the game, before being removed, then allowed back on in the final term. Investigations are currently underway as to what actually happened.

On Saturday afternoon at the Gold Coast, Essendon continued their good form from last week and almost caused a boilover. The Suns, however, managed to do just enough to run out winners in this game, 17.17.119 to 17.8.110. The Bombers really gave it a crack. Port Adelaide was coming off a bad week with much negative publicity surrounding the Zak Butters incident resulting from last week’s PA loss to St Kilda. On the field at Marvel Stadium, they were major underdogs against Hawthorn on Saturday. The Power showed their mettle; they led at halftime and almost pulled off an unlikely win. The final score saw the Hawks narrowly prevail, 89-86. An even closer finish eventuated at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night. In a game of huge momentum swings, the hometown Crows eked out a 15.13.103 to 15.12.102 victory over St Kilda.

The other thrilling game took place on Sunday afternoon at the MCG, where the Melbourne Demons bounced back from their horror outing a week ago versus Essendon to stun the visiting Brisbane Lions and spoil Lachie Neale’s 350th AFL game. The final score was Melbourne 16.8.104, Brisbane 15.12.102.

In the lopsided games, Geelong crushed the Western Bulldogs by 75 points and North Melbourne defeated Richmond by the same amount. For the ‘Roos, this is their best start to the season since 2016, which was also the last time they made the finals. Sydney maintained top spot on the ladder with a comfortable 41-point victory over cross-town rivals GWS at the Sydney Cricket Ground last Friday night. This game was delayed by over an hour due to a lightning storm in the Sydney area. In the local WA Derby, Fremantle cruised to a 14.13.97 to 5.11.41 win over the West Coast Eagles.

Tipping

High scores were the order of the weekend! Congratulations to Jacqui Tips, John Naughton and Had a Gut Full (John Walker), who all tipped 9 winners this week. Had a Gut Full is the winner of this week’s $20.00 dining credit by virtue of being closer on the margin game. John was only two points out – very well done. We are a quarter of the way into the season. John Naughton has vaulted to the top of our leaderboard.
