Cruising News 7/4

Commander Helen Ward (RAN) will be speaking at the Monthly Guest Speaker Dinner on April 17th, and will relate the story of HMVS Cerberus, the first Australian steam powered ironclad warship. Cerberus was commissioned shortly after the Australian colonial governments had been empowered to acquire and man naval vessels. (As most will know, the scuttled hulk of the Cerberus remains today, forming a breakwater off the beach at Black Rock).

Commander Ward has an interest in Naval history, and will focus her talk on the Cerberus story, in particular, the arduous delivery voyage from Britain to Melbourne. She will also touch on other significant early Victorian Naval events and history.

As usual, after gathering in the Members Bar for the weekly announcements and members’ draw at 7:00pm, please join us in the Bayview Room for the dinner and talk

A reminder that bookings are essential for catering purposes. To book, please contact Reception on 9592 3092 or email [email protected] prior to the close of business on Wednesday April 16th.   $40.00 per person is payable on the night, inclusive of a two-course dinner.
