Hi all,
On the Field
Last Thursday night, the Adelaide Crows stunned the Western Bulldogs, defeating the home team by 57 points at Marvel Stadium. The Crows did something they have rarely done in the last couple of years – they started quickly with 9 first-quarter goals. The Doggies never recovered. On Friday night, Geelong turned the tables on the Gold Coast, coasting to a 45-point win at GMHBA Stadium. It was the Suns’ third straight loss.
Melbourne moved up to fourth on the ladder with a 13.17.95 to 6.14.50 win over Essendon at the MCG. It was a wet afternoon and the Demons handled the conditions much better than the Bombers. At Perth Stadium, North Melbourne recovered from their horrible loss to Freo last week to win a squeaker over West Coast. Final score was NM 10.14.74, West Coast 10.13.73. Port Adelaide hosted the Sydney Swans on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval and almost pulled off a major upset. However, the Swans fought back in the second half and took the four points after a narrow 14.9.93 to 13.12.90 win.
On Sunday, Richmond played Brisbane at Ninja Stadium, Hobart. The Tigers stuck with last year’s premiers until halftime, but in the third quarter the Lions kicked away and eventually won by 35 points. In the final game, St Kilda held on for an 8-point victory over GWS at Marvel Stadium. The Saints led all day and when the Giants closed to within a point with a few minutes left, their supporters would have been very nervous. This week, they hung on.
