QCYC HMAS Goorangai Memorial and Eliza Ramsden Trophy Races

The Melbourne Cup long weekend is fast approaching and Queenscliff Cruising Yacht Club invites keelboats from around the bay to participate in the annual running of their HMAS Goorangai Trophy race on Saturday 4 November from Brighton to Queenscliff. The race commemorates the tragic sinking of the vessel, HMAS Goorangai with 24 hands on board and has a special connection to QCYC, with a perpetual trophy donated by a past member in honor of his lost mates.

The race also includes a female helm division for the Eliza Ramsden Trophy, which was initiated in 2022 to encourage more female crew to step up to take the helm.

Free berthing will be provided on Saturday overnight and an invitation to enjoy the festivities of QCYC’s 61st Opening Day celebrations on Sunday. Lunch is supplied, watch the “Blessing of the Fleet” and hear the cannon roar as we break open the flags to declare the 2023 Season open.

Come and experience the hospitality and camaraderie at the club which has been awarded Australian Sailing Victorian Yacht Club of the Year Category B for 2023.  There is much to celebrate!
