This week’s wild weather is predicted to finish just in time for Opening Day this Saturday 7th October– it is forecast to be clear with light winds. We’d love to see you there, whether you are a sailor or not. Here is what is happening on the day…
11:15 am – before the formalities begin, we will be treated to George Henderson’s bagpipes. We’re thrilled to have George play for us after his trip to the UK where he played at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and was part of a championship winning band.
11:30 am – The Official Opening of the sailing season commences. We encourage you to join me, the Club Captain, members and official guests to witness the blessing of the fleet and to wish all sailors the best for the season ahead.
12:00 noon – sailors and guests make their way to the marina for the Sail Past and short race. Sailing Instructions and boat order for the Sail Past will be sent to all skippers by our Boating Manager and can also be found below.
3:00 pm onwards – 80’s themed party including a DJ, complementary snack and themed cocktails.
Pull the 80’s clothing out of your wardrobe (or your parent’s or grandparent’s wardrobe). We will be featuring a slide show of people’s memories of Australia II winning the America’s Cup and unveiling a fascinating piece of America’s Cup memorabilia. There will be an opportunity to pose in front of our photo wall, and prizes for the best costumes.
It’s a busy week ahead with the first twilight race on Wednesday 11 October. The restaurant will remain open later (until at least 9:00 pm) and we encourage you to bring your crews back to the club. All are welcome to join the sailors for an evening at the club.
Hope to see you on Saturday 7 October for Opening Day, and then again on Wednesday 11 October for the first twilight race of the season.
