Training Update

Welcome out of winter!

Update from Laura

After a cold and wet winter, we are finally able to look forward to some warmth and sunshine as we plan for the summer months. As the calendar comes together this season is looking to be one of our biggest yet!

SEPTEMBER HOLIDAY PROGRAM

We will have two separate weeks of learn to sail programs running commencing on the 18th of September through to the 30th. We have the Tackers programs for under 12-year-olds, OutThere Sailing for the teenagers and Green Fleet, Youth Racing Squad and 29er Squad for our sailors who are a little further down their journey. We are also trialing a new “Tiny Tackers” program for 5–7-year-olds who are not quite old enough for tackers but are still looking for some sailing and water-based fun.  Enrollment and information on each course is available here:

TERM 4 PROGRAM

The term 4 Sunday Program will be returning in early October with enrollments for all programs now open, just click here. For children under 12 we invite you to join our Junior programs Fun and Adventure (L1), Skills and Drills (L2) or Green Fleet (L3). Teenagers have the options of Youth Challenge (L1), Youth Skills (L2), Youth Racing Squad (L3) or our newly established 29er Squad.

ADULT LEARN TO SAIL

Adult Learn to Sail courses have also been opened up for enrollments. Courses typically run 4 Saturdays in a row with 3.5 hour sessions. The course is carried out in the club owned RS Quest’s and fit 2-3 adults at a time. RBYC offers 3 levels of courses to work your way through, all of which provide a nationally recognized certificate of competency that will ensure you’re equipped with the skills you need for social sailing right up to jumping on a boat of your choice and getting it around a racecourse. Grab some friends or family and jump right in! Enrollments and course dates can be accessed here.

OTB RACING

OTB Racing is looking to be bigger and better this season as we hope to continue to foster our committed and growing OTB cohort. Come Term 4, Sunday afternoon racing will be moving from informal coaches racing to a full race session run by a committee. This exciting transition hopes to encourage more of our OTB sailors to jump out and get involved!

Thursday Sprint racing will return in Term 4 for those who love a short course, coaches lead race session. In order to complement the Sunday races, Thursdays provide a more informal/training based approach for sailors of all competence and confidence levels. We hope to see all out OTB sailors making the most of the dual race days throughout the summer!

CONGRATULATIONS TO RBYC MEMBERS

A massive congratulations to our various RBYC members who have been representing the club at an abundance of events in Europe over the past few months.

Tess Llyod, Chloe Fisher, Laura Thomson, Lily and Matilda Richardson have all been competing in a plethora of events in the 49erFX including Kiel Week and the European Championships. We wish Tess and her partner Dervla all the best in their preparations for the upcoming World Championships in Canada.

Charlotte Wormald (IQ Foil) and Jack Eickmeyer (ILCA 6) represented the club at the Youth World Championships. Charlotte then went on to compete in the IQ Foil Games with RBYC member Phillip Cripsey also attending the event – Well done!

Also, congratulations to Lily, Matilda and Jack for competing in the National Sailing League Final in Germany. Whilst they were representing Mornington, we will still claim some of their fame as our own and look forward to welcoming them home soon.

SCHOOL PROGRAMS

We are delighted to be welcoming back our local school sailing teams to the club in Term 4. RBYC is a proud host to Brighton Grammar School and Firbank Grammar School as they develop their squads in preparation for another domination of the state and national teams racing championships in 2023. Go Team Brighton!
