Report from Club Captain

This coming weekend, King’s Birthday long weekend, RBYC will showcase some of the values we hold dear. 50+ Opti sailors from RBYC and other clubs in the bay, from interstate, and from overseas will compete in the three-day King’s Cup regatta. It will begin with coaching sessions, and then racing, perhaps in the pond for the less-experienced Green Fleet, and beyond the breakwater for Intermediate and Open Fleets. We are honoured that patron John Bertrand AO will interview Jessica Watson OAM after sailing on Saturday.

On show will be the challenges of learning and of competing, of children sharing experiences with other young sailors, of parents seeing children tackling whatever Port Phillip Bay happens to throw our way in winter, and of RBYC members welcoming others to our club. My personal thanks to Brendon Jukes as Opti Rep in Sailing Committee, to Paul Pascoe as Race Officer, to many others who have volunteered their time and expertise, as well as the huge effort from the Sailing Office for bringing it all together.

At the same time, all the best to keelboat crews sailing in the Alan Robinson race to Queenscliff and the annual Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta at RMYS. A great way to spend the King’s birthday weekend.
