Report from Club Captain Marnie Irving

The organisational side of sailing activities is huge. Here is a link to the communication to Club Officials from Australian Sailing. It gives some idea of the array of events being held in Victoria over the next few months.

This includes regattas at RBYC,

  • Victorian Optimist State Championship March 7-9 (Labour Day long weekend);
  • Victorian Etchells State Championship March 13 – 15
  • Victorian VXOne State Titles March 28-29
  • BLiSS, Brighton Ladies Skipper Series, part of the Port Phillip Women’s Championship Series and Associates’ Cup 3rd May.
  • Kings Cup Optimist Regatta 6-9 June

Over the past few months, we have seen many classes travel further afield for their championships. In April several of our 2.4s will make the long journey across the country to the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club for their Nationals. Packing up and making such a trip requires a tremendous amount of planning.

Regattas require the assistance of a large number of volunteers, as well as the support of friends and family for the sailors who participate. We are grateful to everyone who provides their free time to make these events special. Please drop into the Sailing Office if you’d like more information on our sailing program, or if you can help out with the regattas in March.
