Club Captain report

Magnetic Island Race Week, following on from Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks and preceding Townsville Yacht club GaL.S Regatta, is underway; a glorious opportunity for sailors to hone their skills in sunshine. Sailing in regattas, with racing being held on several consecutive days, allows for consolidation of skills and of teamwork. Sailing away from home turf means learning about local conditions, both navigation tactics and weather changes.

Queensland regattas are also a wonderful place to share a holiday spirit with friends from home clubs, and ones with whom we connect whilst competing. Four boats from RBYC are competing at Magnetic Island – JAMHU, Rampallion, Dreamtime Solutions and Gusto. There are also RBYC members here sailing on boats from other clubs.

Rear Commodore Cath Hurley and I spent yesterday evening at Townsville Yacht Club with representatives from other competing boats. Seeing how other clubs celebrate such occasions, seeing their facilities (huge open-air deck!), and meeting other members of the sailing community are yet other benefits of participating in such regattas.

Best wishes,

Marnie Irving, Club Captain
