Report from Vice Commodore

Dear Members

I look forward to seeing our spring and summer programs swing into full gear; here’s hoping warmer weather and better wind conditions will be upon us, and we will see our boats and crews return to the club. Last weekend’s first race of the new season was a great start, with pleasant wind conditions, and it was nice to see all classes well represented.

Suppose racing is not your thing, but you still want to get your boat up and build confidence and sea miles; why not join get out for a Sunday Social sail? This initiative is very new, and the idea is to get member boats out of the marina and go sailing, say for one hour out and one hour back, and then meet back at the club for lunch. It would be weather-dependent, with no intended destination and based on wind direction. Next week, we’ll have specific details of how this will all be organised, to have the first organised Social Sail on Sunday, 27th October.

Lastly, I may sound like a broken record, but we are still actively looking for power boat owners to help volunteer by either assisting in driving the support boats or using your boat as an on-water support vessel. This is a great way to practice and improve your boat handling skills and an opportunity to get up close to some excellent sail racing. Please get in touch with the Sailing Office if you are interested in helping.

Alternatively, we ask all skippers and crew to volunteer with the Race Management team one day each year. It doesn’t have to be on the day you race; there are plenty of race days and regattas to choose from. We all appreciate your support and help with this initiative!

Have a great week ahead.
