Club Captain Report

We are coming quickly to the end of our summer sailing.

Twilights finished last week and thanks to our Race Officer for planning a race that allowed most boats to finish before the sun slipped below the horizon, and to race management volunteers for their indispensable efforts for the whole season. Wednesday Racing continues with the Hearnes Heroes Series.

This Saturday sees the last of the Brighton Championship races for the Keelboats. This is followed by the Artemis Pursuit on 20th April and then the Cerberus Race on the 27th, so still some good sailing to be had before the winter programs kicks off.

The BLiSS (Brighton Ladies’ Skipper Series) is part of PPWCS (Port Phillip Women’s Championship Series) with boats from the top end of the bay joining us on May 5th.
The only requirement is to have a female helm. There’s always a great atmosphere, both out on the water, and after the racing there’s celebration in the café. It’s not too late to get involved.

OTB racing is still happening each Sunday until 28th April with the Autumn series, then it’s the winter series on a monthly basis.

One design fleets are racing until the end of May with the winter series starting in August. It’s been great to see the arrival of new VX Ones and 2.4’s to these fleets.

Please remember that we still require all boats to sign on and list their crew before leaving the marina or beach.

BLiSS training sessions will run on 21st and 28th April. Almost free ($50), subsidised by YRSA these are open to lady sailors looking to up skill on their keelboat sailing. Places are limited so get in quick.

The club also runs many information sessions. Rosie Colahan is talking this Friday 12th April after the 7pm draw in the Members’ Bar about the origin of BLiSS and the journey of Women in Sailing and then she is back on the 15th May as part of the KISS program.
Jeanne Socrates will be at the club on 17th April to tell us about the world of Solo sailing.

More information and links to register for the above events can be found in the club newsletter or on the website.

Hope to see you at the club soon.
