This coming weekend is the Labour Day long weekend and traditionally many members are away. There is a Pursuit race Saturday for those who are staying home and want to get out on the water to enjoy the terrific weather we have had. The ORCV is running the annual race to King Island, with RBYC boats Blue Water Tracks and French Bred participating. The race is a category 2 race, with King Island 114 miles away. The race starts on the 9th of March 2024, at 3am. Personally, I will be asleep at start time. The race record is 9 hours 50 minutes 21seconds back in 2014. The race is said to be won or lost in the final stages of the race due to the tidal currents and the prevailing winds.
The following weekend the Club will be hosting the “Waszp” state titles over the Saturday and the Sunday. The WASZP is a singlehanded one-design foiler. There is a quite a fleet at RBYC . The WASZP is 3.35m and with wings extended the bean is 2.25m. It will an exciting event.
This Wednesday evening the weather looks rather good for twilight race. Temperature 30 with a south westerly in the afternoon.
The last time I wrote a report for the newsletter, I spoke of volunteering. Well, the Club needs you. I would remind members that it is your Club and any assistance you can give is always greatly appreciated.
