Hello fellow members.
What a busy time of the year is in December and January.
Many congratulations to our RBYC yachts that competed in both the Sydney to Hobart and the Melbourne to Hobart races and their safe return, well done and all power to you, a truly amazing group of sailors.
On Boxing Day we had a lot of boats competing in the annual cock of the bay race run by ORCV with some fantastic results. From there the Petersville Regatta held off Blairgowire proved to be a happy hunting ground for Past Commodore PJ and his team on BKT JAMHU cleaning up and winning the silverware.
From there the club hosted the VX One Australian Championship which was both a spectacle and exciting to see it all unfold from interstate competitors arriving, the measuring process and on the water racing. If you want super-fast and great racing this is a growing class, so get on board.
The following week the 2.4 class held its Australian Championships with 20 boats competing with the RBYC boats having a great regatta. Matt Bugg for Hobart won for his 12th time with our very own Neil Paterson once again second overall. This is a truly wonderful class and very strong around the world. Get into sailing with us here.
Away from the club our Etchells and Dragon fleets represented RBYC in Metung for Australian and Victorian Titles, while keelboats were at Geelong – well done to all involved.
Once again it highlighted both our club , facilities , assets and most importantly our beloved volunteers and wonderful office and catering staff. I like others are constantly amazed and cannot thank you enough.
There is always a lot happening at the club so please try and find the time to see what is going on both on and off the water. Along with Wednesday racing, the Thursday night OTB sailing is going from strength to strength remember it is not just for ILCA’s it is for all the OTB’s join in when you can.
See you at the club,
The RBYC family
Pete
