Cruising Group Update

2024 BIRTHDAY CRUISE to RYCV, Williamstown:

A great turnout of around 50 members and friends enjoyed the annual RBYC Cruising Group Birthday Cruise to the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria last Sunday. Several boats sailed over, however, with the BOM posting “Strong Wind Warning” for the Bay, others decided to opt for the comfort of car cruising to Williamstown.

After a warm welcome by Royals’ Officer of the Day, Vice Commodore Damian Purcell, it was time for the swapping of tales and plans, and then on to lunch. Some opted to order from the club restaurant, the others for a picnic lunch (with many of us taking advantage of RYCV’s member use BBQs), followed by the traditional cutting and eating of the birthday cake.

Cruising Group has held a birthday cruise to RYCV annually since the Group’s inaugural event following its formation in 1991, and we continue to be very appreciative of Royals hospitality in hosting us each year.

GUEST SPEAKER DINNER – Friday Feb 16th, 2024

Our first Guest Speaker Dinner of 2024 will be held on Friday, February 16th, when the RBYC Cruising Group cruisers who spent much of 2023 sailing north to explore New Caledonia and Vanuatu before returning to Melbourne late in the year, will entertain us with tales of their adventures. This promises to be a great evening to kick off 2024 after the Christmas break. Stay tuned for further details

2024 BASS STRAIT CRUISE in Company:

The 2024 annual Bass Strait Cruise in Company is scheduled for the fortnight Sat 24th Feb to Mon 11th Mar, 2024.  We currently have around half a dozen boats that have indicated that have expressed interest in participating. However, there is no “close off” date as such, and if anyone else might be interested in cruising in the company of these boats, please let Rob Hurrell ([email protected]) know.
