Saturdays see a full schedule of inshore and passage races across a number of classes and divisions in keelboats and one-design classes, with alternating pursuit and fleet races.
Some of the Club’s most prestigious trophies are to be found in our aggregate series, a mixture of long and short races sailed on Saturdays during spring and summer over a variety of courses.
Melbourne’s largest one-design fleet can be found racing on Centre Course every Saturday afternoon. The Etchells class at Royal Brighton Yacht Club is without a doubt one of the strongest at any club, with World and Olympic champions and America’s Cup skippers to be found among a very strong fleet. The Dragons are also a popular class with the RBYC members.
Keelboat sailors are very well catered for, with several series and two standalone races and some divisional races run in conjunction with neighbouring clubs.
Sundays see the junior and youth teams conduct their training in many different classes of off-the-beach dinghies.
Wednesdays are also an important staple in the club’s racing calendar. The Twilight Series is a fantastic weekly event run throughout the daylight-saving period, consisting of a short race with a sunset finish, followed by drinks and meals back on our new deck. New crew always welcome!
A year-round event for those who have flexibility in their days is Wednesday Afternoon Racing. Meet over lunch and enjoy an afternoon on the Bay. Again, new crew and casual yacht entries are most welcome.
The Club offers various different opportunities for those looking to improve their performance, which in turn raises the overall standard at the Club and makes for even more competitive racing. Among these are one-on-one training sessions with our Club Coach and crewing bootcamps held on a regular basis.
The calendar on the Club website has all the details on each event, along with the notice of race, sailing instructions, online entry and results.
