Report from Club Captain

Marnie Irving

I’ve been away recently, and have had the opportunity of using my RBYC membership to connect with two of our reciprocal clubs. I stayed, as did Rear Commodore Cath Hurley recently, at Royal Thames Yacht Club. Situated, away from the water, in Knightsbridge directly opposite Hyde Park, staying in one of their small cabins, is a wonderful place from which to enjoy London. I then visited Como Yacht Club in northern Italy, (see below image) and enjoyed an espresso, a brioche, and an Aperol Spritz on their sunny deck overlooking the boats and the seaplanes on the lake. At both clubs we were offered a very warm welcome.

It’s good to be back, and it was great to see wonderful racing conditions over the weekend, for the Blizzard and ORCV races on Saturday and the OTB racing Sunday.  JAHMU won the Blizzard by mere seconds. Another Chapter, Serious Yahoo, Windspeed and Sakima raced to Blairgowrie, starting off RBYC. Another Chapter did particularly well, coming second on AMS and third in PHS in Division 1, and congratulations to Sakima for winning Div 3 PHS. Serious Yahoo also enjoyed the Novice skipper return race. Sunday saw 14 ILCA’s on the OTB course on a cold and shifty Easterly breeze.

This Friday evening, 10th July, we are celebrating our achievements and our friendships at Presentation Night. A cocktail party for all club members, with substantial finger food and music for dancing, do please join us. Book with Reception on 95923092, or [email protected]
