Subsided Diesel Engine Course for women
RBYC is fortunate to have received a Sail Our Way grant, enabling us to subsidise an RYA Diesel Engine Course for women. This 6-hour course will be conducted by Yachtmaster Sailing School over two Monday evenings.
14 and 21 Sept 2026, 6:30 – 9:30 pm
The cost of this course is usually $450 person. However, the grant allows us to offer the course for $200 per person.
The aim of this course is to prevent machinery breakdown at sea. Volunteer Marine Rescue groups tell us that the main reasons for call outs to sail and powerboats is machinery failure. If you do have mechanical problems this course will teach you how to get going again and how to use preventative maintenance to minimize problems at sea. Having diesel experience is a valuable addition to your skills and greatly enhances your value as a crew member.
Syllabus:
- Identifying key parts of a marine diesel engine
- Understand a four-stroke engine
- Fuel systems and problem solving
- Cooling systems, pumps and impellers
- Air systems
