Report from Rear Commodore

One of the joys of belonging to RBYC is the friends you make and the opportunities to share adventures at home and abroad. This month finds me sailing in Greece with several Brighton members. While the climate is different the skills required are the same and it’s great to use them in foreign waters. With a Day Skipper ticket you can hire a catamaran and cruise the Mediterranean.

Closer to home there’s lots going on at the club. The Icebergers held their winter safety briefing on Sunday. A timely reminder about the dangers of hypothermia as the waters cool.

On Sunday it was great to see ten boats competing with four female helms. Congratulations to Emma Prest with the crew of Presto and all who competed. It’s great to see those who had planned to sail in Bliss behind the wheel.

On the junior front the King’s Cup is coming up next month and it’s been great to see the high-profile promotion of the regatta on Facebook.

I was sorry to miss the annual trivia night. However, news of the success of the “Early Swimmers” team has reached me across the ocean. This annual event which brings together Icebergers, the race management team, racing and cruising sailing teams is one of my favourite events on our social calendar. Congratulations to all involved.

Wishing all fair winds and following seas, or chilly but flat waters for the swimmers.
