This coming Friday evening, April 17th, we are very pleased to have Commander Helen Ward of the Royal Australian Navy as our Guest Speaker.
Commander Ward has passionate interest in Australian Naval history and will focus her talk this Friday evening on the story of HMVS Cerberus, the first Australian steam powered ironclad warship and in particular, its arduous delivery voyage from Britain to Melbourne. (Cerberus was commissioned shortly after the Australian colonial governments had been empowered to acquire and man naval vessels, and as most will know, the scuttled hulk of the vessel remains today, forming a breakwater off the beach at Black Rock). Commander Ward will bring along some artifacts from the Cerberus and will also touch on other significant early Victorian Naval events and history.
As usual, after gathering in the Members Bar for the weekly announcements and members’ draw at 7:00pm, please join us in the Bayview Room for the dinner and talk
A reminder that bookings are essential for catering purposes. To book, please contact Reception on 9592 3092 or email [email protected] prior to the close of business on Wednesday April 15th. $40.00 per person is payable on the night, inclusive of a two-course dinner.
