Report from Vice Commodore Peter Gebhardt
Dear Members
I hope this note finds you well and that you all managed to have a great Labour Day weekend! It was a busy weekend around the club as we hosted the 2026 VIODA Organic Garden International Optimist Victorian & Open Championships. The success of these regattas relies heavily on volunteers, so thank you to those who helped over the weekend.
Being involved with sailing in a racing capacity aboard Mirrabooka each Saturday, I also have a keen interest in cruising, and so will put a slight ‘cruising’ slant in my note to you this week.
We have a lot of experienced sailors and cruisers in the Club, and we are all willing to help fellow club members build their experience and enjoyment in using their boats. This year, we plan on organising more on-water activities, and this is a great way to get your boat out of the marina. Or if you need some advice or help with your boat, our members are always ready and willing to help. The cruising group has an active WhatsApp group and a separate email group. Please contact Mandy at reception ([email protected]), and we can add you to the group.
So, stay tuned for some on-water overnight events coming up, and please keep an eye out for our upcoming third Friday Guest Speaker dinners. We have two interesting speakers lined up over the next two months.
Lastly, I would like to mention we recently launched a QR code system and App for reporting problems you may see whilst using the Club facilities, with a view to improving maintenance around the club. If you see something that isn’t quite right, please download the App and report it. This will help the team to get it fixed quickly.
Have a great week ahead!
Peter Gebhardt Vice Commodore
