Club Captains Report

Last week the club was abuzz with the green and white sails of 26 Quest dinghies sailing in the Stonehaven Cup regatta. 78 teenagers, plus coaches and supportive adults, attended from Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, King Island Boat Club, Sea Scouts, and Navy Cadets from four states.

The regatta is a wonderful opportunity in so many ways. It is a sporting challenge, a way of meeting new people and making new friends, it’s being part of an hundred-year-old tradition, it’s sailing as a crew of three or four and being part of a team.

Weather always impacts sailing, and this year especially so. Rod McKenna and the Sailing Office pivoted decisions as they confronted forecasts with temperatures above 40 degrees and gale-force winds. The teens and the race management volunteers were magnificent in responding to demands of being on the water by 8am on occasions. We are proud of the RBYC Stonehaven team for their successes on the racecourse and their hospitality to their guests.
