GC Report from GC member John Mooney
Royal Brighton Yacht Club is hosting the 2025 Sail Melbourne event on behalf of Australian Sailing, and our Club is abuzz with vibrant activity. This World Grade event starts Thursday but already the club is packed with boats from around Australia and around the world. This year’s entries are 40% up on last year demonstrating how well the event is regarded by sailors and coaches. There are 263 entries and 319 athletes from 13 countries with each country represented have their flag displayed around the club.
Events such as Sail Melbourne could not exist without enormous amounts of organising and assistance. There are five race courses with RBYC managing two of the courses and the other courses managed by Black Rock Yacht Club, Mordialloc Sailing Club, Royal Melbourne Yacht Club and Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. In addition, other clubs have provided resources such as rhibs and even the local Sea Scout group have provided their two rhibs in support of the event.
A big thankyou to all the volunteers, from clubs around Australia, who give their time and expertise to the event. To our members who give up their car park for the week – the sailors thank you.
I have been fortunate to attend many events in Australia and overseas and am certain that “no one does it better than Sail Melbourne”. Where else can you see the little tackers rig their craft in the same boat park as Olympic and World Champions.
To all the competitors we wish you good conditions and great racing.
