Brighton boats shine in Queensland

by Rear Commodore Cath Hurley

One of the joys of belonging to RBYC is heading off to regattas with fellow sailors. You get to hone your skills and teamwork over an extended period of time with a full week of racing. Strong winds on the first three days of Airlie Beach Race week made for challenging conditions for boats competing in the regatta.

RBYC boats performed well with Dreamtime Solutions taking out first position in Cruising Performance Racing Division 3 with Rampallion in third. Gusto also scored a first in one race, which meant we had three Brighton boats in first position on that day! Jamhu just missed out on the podium coming in fourth in Performance Racing after having to repair significant damage after a collision on the start line. It was amazing to see them organise repairs and continue racing so far from home. David Williamson and Brett Bowden were really put through their paces on the VXOnes given the strong conditions, and are keen to come back next year.

This week Brighton boats are competing at Hamilton Island in light airs.

It’s wonderful to sail in the sun with other club members. I highly recommend it if you get the opportunity.
