Commodores Report

The Royal Brighton Yacht Club’s 150th Gala Ball was an unforgettable celebration of heritage, friendship and vision. Against the backdrop of Albert Park Lake and the city lights, the evening buzzed with elegance and excitement.  Our scruffy sailors certainly scrubbed up well.  Guests enjoyed a night filled with lively entertainment, wonderful cuisine, and the unmistakable warmth of the RBYC community. The vibe was electric with laughter and shared memories.

As I warmly stated, ‘You’ll be pleased to know that there are no long speeches tonight, but rather it is your evening to share memories of sailing at Royal Brighton – the many characters we’ve encountered along the way, the adventures at sea and reliving past glories that seem to grow in stature after each passing year.’

But this evening wasn’t only about nostalgia—it was a tribute to the thousands of people who built this Club from a humble shed into an internationally revered yacht club. Royal Brighton is now recognised globally for its hospitality, world-class race management, and the demanding yet rewarding conditions of Port Phillip.

Looking ahead, the launch of the RBYC Future Development Fund was announced—a philanthropic initiative to support transformative projects, including a proposed world-class sail training facility. This vision ensures the Club remains a beacon for future generations.

A heartfelt thanks was extended to members, volunteers, staff, and the 150th Celebration Sub-Committee—especially Past Commodore Wendy Luck, whose leadership made the night possible.

Next time you’re at the Club, please raise your glass in celebration of a remarkable milestone—Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

Wishing you fair winds and following seas and remember no bananas at sea.
