GC Report – Greg Clinnick

Last Saturday saw ideal sailing conditions with light to moderate breezes, plenty of sun, and a balmy 30 degrees. A number of keel boats enjoyed the conditions sailing in a variety of trophy races with Div 1, Div 2, Cruising Division, and one design fleets all coming out to play. The race officers laid gates and buoys, manned the tower and started and finished races in a constantly changing race environment. They even had to dash over to R3 to lay a temporary mark when R3 was found to be missing in action. Great job team. Thank you.

At the conclusion of racing several crews congregated around the club BBQ on the hard stand to cook up a few snags and enjoy some inter boat conversation. I am keen to see this BBQ become a more significant event on the sailing calendar.

Reverie, the well sailed First 45 at the club, will soon be venturing over to Adelaide to compete in the Adelaide to Port Lincoln overnight race and subsequently the Port Lincoln race week. Alan Woodward and the Reverie crew are held in high esteem by the S.A. racing fraternity.  Alan and Reverie have been going to the Port Lincoln regatta since the mid 1990s and have won it 3 times. We wish them good luck and great sailing as they represent both the club and Victoria (the interstate rivalry is fierce!)

In the meantime, enjoy the remainder of our summer sailing program. Before you know it, the twilight races will be over, and the days will get shorter and cooler. So take the opportunity to gather your crew, or find some new crew, and enjoy the diverse sailing program the club offers.

See you on the water.
