RBYC Members Play Golf

There is so much more than sailing that members can enjoy at Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

Last week a team of eight golfers from RBYC played in the Victory Cup, a competition between the yacht clubs on the bay that’s been running for 47 years. It was a great day out at Rossdale Golf Course on a beautiful spring day. Bill Fairley and I put together the team with Bruce McBriar,Tony Bond, Toby Palfrey,Campbell Martin, Caroline Stenniken and Leigh Dorrington. Bill Fairley had the best RBYC score on the day and took home the JA Douglas Cup named after a former RBYC commodore started in 1929. I won the longest drive.

The Victory Cup was won by Blairegowrie Yacht Squadron who entered the competition for the first time. RBYC didn’t come first but we didn’t come last and we enjoyed the course. Bill Fairley says that in the past we’ve had a team of up to 20 players so when it comes around next year, please join us. Only the best four scores are counted so the more the merrier and the greater the chance of success. It’s open to all members with a Golf Australia Handicap, including social, aquatic, gym etc. Keep an eye on the newsletter for all upcoming events.

Back on the water there’s lots going on. RBYC sailors competed in the Range Series over the weekend. Congratulations to Jamhu who came in second in the first division on AMS. This weekend Commodore Peter Demura will be crewing on Another Chapter skippered by GC member Greg Clinnick, heading to Devonport for the Rudder Cup, along with Blue Water Tracks skippered by Grant Dunoon. The Etchells Nationals are also on in Metung over the long weekend. Whatever sailing you’re doing I wish you fair winds and good sailing.

Look forward to seeing you at the club or on the water soon.

Cath Hurley,

Rear Commodore.
