From the 9th-11th of March, four RBYC junior sailors: Eddie Barron, Jenson Oldham, Oliver Martin, and I (Nathan Stanford) participated in the 29er state championships at the Sorento Sailing Couta Boat club. For all of us, this was our first time sailing a 29er regatta and it was such an amazing experience.
On the first day, I had never sailed a 29er in such windy conditions, resulting in a few capsizes throughout the race. On the other hand, neither of us had ever gone so fast in a 29er before, and so we had so much fun. We raced against some of the best 29er sailors in the country and although my boat didn’t get a placing, we slowly did better as the days progressed and learnt so much.
The 29er state Championships was a great experience and we are all looking forward to doing it again next year!
