Royal Brighton Yacht Club has one of the most comprehensive sailing training programs in the Nation. Offering group lessons for Youth and Adults there is something for all levels.

In addition, RBYC offers many different courses throughout the year for members and friends who wish to go down the path of volunteering and race officiating.

Just starting out? and not sure what to be doing see below and then select your training program.

JUNIOR TRAINING (7 – 11 yrs)
This is the Tackers Program and is run in Optimist Dinghies . Training can be undertaken during Term 1, 3 & 4 and in Schools holidays.

Quick Guide

Tackers 1 – Never sailed before.
Tackers 2 – Completed Tackers 1 or has basic sailing experience.
Tackers 3 – Can sail independently, tack, gybe and is becoming self-sufficient.
Development Squad – Confident sailor interested in racing and skill development.

YOUTH TRAINING (11 – 18 Yrs)
This is the OutThere program and is run in Quests. Training can be undertaken during Term 1, 3 & 4 and in Schools holidays.

Quick Guide

OutThere Sailing 1 – For first-time sailors or those with very limited sailing experience.
OutThere Sailing 2 – For participants who can steer, tack and sail a simple course with some assistance.
OutThere Sailing 3 – For sailors who can rig, launch and sail with limited assistance and want to become more independent,
Development Squad – For confident sailors interested in advanced skills, regular training or progressing into racing.

Adult learn to sail is offered in Dinghy and Keelboats and is run on weekends.
