2025 ended with some terrific sailing – all the best for 2026

As 2025 came to a close, we witnessed some challenging sailing in regattas and ocean races across the country, with the swimmers also busy with various events.

RBYC assisted the ORCV with the start of the Cock of the Bay on Boxing Day, which was a tremendous sight viewed from the RBYC balcony. The ORCV reported that 74 yachts and nearly 500 sailors across three divisions took part in the lively conditions.

Congratulations to all RBYC boats and sailors who participated and well done especially to RBYC yacht JAHMU, which won the Cock of the Bay on overall AMS handicap, also coming second across the line and second in ORC. Paul Jackson’s JAHMU was skippered by RBYC’s 2023/24 Yachtsperson of Year, Ken Christenson, with other RBYC members on board. JAHMU followed up with a second place on AMS and ORC in the Petersville regatta.

Other RBYC entrants to reach the podium in their divisions were;

Moana (Mark Buckley) – 3rd line honours, 2nd ORC, 3rd PHS (Div 1 and overall)

Oobleck (Jim Leckey) – 3rd PHS (Div 1 and overall)

Joan Ellen (Tony Hennessy) – 2nd PHS (Div 2)

L’Etoile (Wesley Thomson & Celestine Eramo) – 3rd PHS (Div 3)

We are now well in 2026 and looking forward to a terrific week of sailing ahead with the Stonehaven Cup starting today, one design and OTB sailors preparing to attend regattas across the country and regular club racing starting next week. There is lots of opportunity to enjoy the water whether you are swimming or sailing. Remember to stay safe with the predicted hot weather ahead.
