Dear Members
It’s great to see our spring and summer programs swing into full gear; here’s hoping warmer weather and better wind conditions will be upon us. After spending the last 5 weeks away from Melbourne cruising in Indonesia with Aquacadabra, it’s good to be back out on the Bay last Saturday with lots of boats and crews about, and with pleasant wind conditions, all classes were well represented.
Suppose racing is not your thing, there are plenty of other activities and events scheduled in the coming weeks, both on and off the water. One way to keep in touch with all things cruising related is the watch the weekly newsletter. However, another way to join the cruising mail list, being on the email list, you’ll receive reminders about on and off-water events organised by the Cruising Group. Please contact Mandy at Reception, and she will add you to the list.
As you will be advertised in this newsletter, this coming Thursday evening 20 November, there is the opportunity to meet Alice (Tarnawski) Parker, one of Australia’s most respected female ocean racers. From junior sailing to elite ocean racing, and this year navigating a 100-foot supermaxi in the Sydney to Hobart, Alice has incredible experiences to share and plenty of great stories from life offshore. You will find this an inspiring and entertaining event, whether you are an ocean sailor or not. RSVP at this link.
An always popular event, the Progressive Dinner is this Friday, 21st November about 10 boats will be hosting this event. So, be you a boat owner or non-owner, a racer, cruiser, aquatic or social member, this is always an excellent evening to get to know other club members, as the dinners are in small groups that change between the main course boat and the dessert boat. Still, plenty of room if you want to join!
The Club is launching the 150th Anniversary Book this Friday! Author Don Warner and Commodore Peter Demura will be available for the official launch and book signing on 21 November from 6:00 pm up to the members’ draw at 7:00 pm.
Finally, a quick reminder that the VX One fleet is holding the ‘Try VX One Day’ will start at 10 am this Saturday, 22nd November, on the club’s Hardstand (down the pier). There will be time for training/fun where you will be able to crew & /or helm. To register https://www.trybooking.com/DGNOZ
Have a great week ahead.
Peter Gebhardt – Vice Commodore
