GC Report – Vice Commodore

Dear Members

Despite the cold weather over the last month or two, it is pleasing to see that many events are still happening around the club, both on and off the water. We have been blessed with some nice sailing conditions on Saturdays and some Wednesdays. The sun has been shining, accompanied by light winds.

If you are considering venturing into racing, the current conditions, and the type of racing (Tower Start) we run over the winter months would be a great way to ease into racing and gain some experience. We have recently commenced SMART classes, and I encourage all members who sail or are interested in sail racing to attend. Keep an eye out in the newsletter for dates.

If you need an additional crew member or perhaps a mentor to help get started, please reach out to Colin and the team in the Sailing Office. For experienced sailing members who would like to help, we are always on the lookout for volunteers; again, please contact the Sailing Office.

Lastly, a friendly reminder for boat owners that despite the sunshine and light winds across the weekends if you are out on the marina and working on your boat by yourself, you take a moment to make a note of the nearest safety ladders along the marina walkway and that you lower your boat ladders in case of emergency. Also consider wearing a PFD if you plan to work on or near the water whilst on your boat. The water temperature is just over 10c.

Have a great week ahead!
