GC Report – Andy Holmes

Hi – I’m Andy Holmes, one of the new General Committee members who joined last year.

I am a member of a working group to increase philanthropic gifting, as well as developing plans to replace the current Jock Sturrock Centre with a world class sail training facility.  In fact our Commodore announced at the 150th Ball, we are launching the RBYC Future Development Fund—a philanthropic initiative to support transformative projects, including a proposed world-class sail training facility. This vision ensures the Club remains a beacon for future generations.

As part of this work we have been getting ideas on sail training facilities from around Australia and the world (photo is on my visit to the new Victorian Sailing Centre in Geelong).  We have also been listening to organisations who are great at encouraging gifting – John Phillips from Brighton Grammar School is a member of the working group.

To encourage gifting from members we have updated the website showing the various options available to you.  You can make a tax-free gift direct to the RBYC Future Development Fund, you could make a bequest to RBYC in your will, or if you own a company you could become a corporate partner.  The updated website link is here https://rbyc.org.au/give-to-rbyc/

We will keep you regularly updated as the working group continues it endeavours.  In fact we may approach you to input to the feasibility study that will begin later this year.

RBYC is a fantastic sailing club with a rich history filled with legacy from its generations of members.   As you think of the legacy you want you and your family to leave – please consider giving to RBYC.  Its getting near the end of a tax year – so now is a good time to make a tax-free gift.
