Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, the Sir Doug Nicholls Round did not produce any close finishes this year.
On the Field: The closest game was last Thursday night when Geelong hosted the Western Bulldogs. Bailey Smith performed very well against his old team and Jeremy Cameron booted six goals to lead the Cats to a 14-point win. On Friday night, Essendon and Richmond met in the ‘Dreamtime at the G’ match. The Bombers kicked away in the final quarter to record a 23-point win, paced by debutant Angus Clarke’s three goals.
Carlton’s poor season continued on Saturday afternoon when they lost to GWS at Marvel Stadium. The Giants were undermanned but rose magnificently to the occasion of Toby Greene’s 250th game. Final score was GWS 17.8.110 defeated Carlton 12.10.82. A keenly anticipated match was the Brisbane vs Hawthorn game at the MCG. The game was close for the first 1.5 quarters but was broken open by the Lions’ Charley Cameron, who kicked three goals in a minute late in the second quarter. The Hawks never recovered and eventually lost by 33 points. North Melbourne could not play a full four quarters of footy against Collingwood on Saturday night. The Roos played well for the first three quarters but were overrun in the final term – the Magpies’ 3-point lead at the last change ballooned to 45 points at the final siren. In the other Saturday night fixture, Fremantle crushed visiting Port Adelaide by 49 points at Perth Stadium.
Adelaide moved into the top four on Sunday with an eleven-goal win over the visiting West Coast Eagles. Josh Rachele led the way with five goals for the Crows. The Melbourne Demons continued their good form recently with a comfortable 53-point win over the Sydney Swans at the MCG. Kysaiah Pickett picked Sydney apart in the first half and booted five goals for the match. In the final game, the visiting Gold Coast Suns had little trouble disposing of hosts St Kilda at Marvel Stadium. Gold Coast started well to open up a 3-goal lead at quarter time and maintained that advantage to the end. The final score was GC 80, defeated St Kilda 61.
Tipping
Congratulations to Danger Dee, Craig Dallimore and Glocka, who all tipped 9 winners this week. That is fantastic tipping! The $20.00 dining credit at the club goes to Glocka who was slightly closer on the margin game than Craig and Dee. Heaver 13 retains his first-place position on our overall ladder.
