The next few months will feature three key of events to celebrate our 150th anniversary.
Have you booked your tickets for the RBYC 150th Anniversary Ball to be held at The Carousel in Albert Park on May 9th? This glamorous evening will commence at 7.00pm and will include a three-course meal, drinks, entertainment by Richard Stubbs and the Baker Boys band. In addition, keeping with the tradition there will be a special Friday night draw where $1,000 will be won by a lucky attendee. The evening will conclude at midnight. No matter whether you’re a sailing, aquatic, gym, social member or parents of a junior member everyone is welcome to what will be an unforgettable evening as we celebrate 150 years of sailing, camaraderie, and history at RBYC. Secure your spot by accessing the event via the attached QR code and be part of this special milestone event.
On March 29th/30th the Club will host our 150th Anniversary Regatta. Over these two days there are a range of events for everyone including keelboats, one design, OTB and motorboats at RBYC. There will be a series of races and events depending on the class and we will also be hosting the VX One and Jubilee State titles. Although the Jubilee has not sailed at the Club for several years, the Jubilee class was instrumental in rebuilding the Club’s fleet after a severe storm in 1933 destroyed 75% of the Brighton fleet and turning once proud racing yachts into “waterlogged matchwood”. On Saturday afternoon there will be a range of activities for non-sailing family members and all competitors and volunteers are invited to the post race activities. Winners over the weekend will take pride of place on the RBYC 150th Celebratory Trophy kindly donated to the Club by the McKenna family. A Notice of Race will be issued shortly and let’s “empty the marina.”
A few days later on April 3rd, the Club will officially launch the 150th Celebratory wine. Although the wine was available prior to Christmas, the evening will provide an opportunity for members and their guests to sample the Shiraz and Chardonnay and meet the wine maker Paul Georgiadis from Paulmara Wines in the Barossa Valley. Paul has had an illustrious career in the Australian wine industry and together with his wife Mara, established Paulmara Estate on their Marananga home block in 1995. In 2011, they, together with a group of like-minded friends, purchased Paradigm Vineyards. Paul and Mara have also kindly agreed to showcase a range of their other wines. Tickets for the evening are on sale at the Club for $60 and include a charcuterie share platter and a bonus offer on wines purchased on the night.
Wishing you fair winds and following seas and remember no bananas at sea.
