Commodores Report 7/1/25

The summer of sailing at Royal Brighton Yacht Club is shaping as one to remember, showcasing the skill, resilience, and camaraderie of its sailors and volunteers. Highlights of the season to date include remarkable performances by RBYC boats on both local and international stages.
JAMHU delivered an exceptional performance at the 2024 Petersville Regatta, securing podium finishes amidst a competitive fleet to finish 1st on AMS and 2nd on ORC. The crew’s teamwork and precision sailing in tricky coastal conditions and tactically demanding courses were instrumental in their success, further elevating RBYC’s reputation in the Victorian sailing community.
In the iconic 2024 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, RBYC yachts Another Chapter and Cyan Moon faced challenging conditions in the gruelling 628-nautical-mile race. While Cyan Moon retired off Eden due to battery problems, Another Chapter went on to finish 3rd in PHS Division 1 and 7th overall on PHS. The crew’s ability to adapt to the prevailing conditions and their determination to overcome physical and mental fatigue exemplified the spirit of offshore racing.
This week, our Club is hosting the 2025 Etchells World Championship, an elite international regatta that will bring world-class sailors to Port Phillip. Together with visiting sailors, RBYC members have been busy training, including the Christmas Cup and Pre-Worlds Regatta to make their mark on the global stage.
Meanwhile, junior sailors are gearing up for the 95th Stonehaven Cup, hosted by the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron. This historic event, known for fostering youth talent, promises thrilling competition provides an opportunity for young RBYC sailors display their talents on the water.
But wait there’s more! RBYC yachts will be competing in the upcoming Festival of Sails, 75th Adelaide to Port Lincoln Race and Lincoln Week Regatta.
The summer of 2024-25 has solidified RBYC’s standing as a hub for sailing excellence, inspiring sailors of all levels to pursue their dreams and aspirations on the water.
