Boating Manager Report

As many members have headed north for the Winter the sailing office has been spending the winter getting ready for the new season. There has been lot to do with the Presentation Night, New Calendars, Opening Day and prepping for both club racing and regattas that are planned.

The sailing school has also been busy. All the boats have had their winter checks and maintenance and are ready for another busy season. This year we introduced a new Term 3 program for our three youth racing fleets (Junior Race Squad – Opti’s, Youth Race Squad – Quest and 29er race squad). 25 of the current Junior membership have signed up and are training every Sunday morning under the watchful eyes of Craig and our talented instructors. We have also started a mini-series with RMYS juniors, where we meet once a month to race against each other. RBYC hosted the first event, and we head to RMYS next month. This is all part of the training for the Stonehaven Cup in January. The September school Holiday programs are open for bookings and places are limited so don’t wait to book, you might miss out. Another new addition to our training program for 2024 is an after school learn to sail program, this will be run on a Thursday evening during October and November, and we will provide both the Tacker and OutThere Australian Sailing programs.  RBYC has one of the most comprehensive pathways for young sailors aged 6-18 and caters for all levels providing a flexible program allowing our sailors to learn and grow within the sport at their own pace.  As we are always looking at expanding our offering, the school is currently on the look out for a couple of Lasers to add to the fleet to allow us to develop a single-handed training program. So, if you know of anyone who has a boat in good condition and would be keen to help the club then please contact Colin.

We are looking forward to a great season of sailing and hope that all club members get involved be it on the water or as part of our volunteer group. The weekly newsletter is the best place to keep up to date with what’s happening and how you can get involved.
