Following approval of the resolution put to the Special General Meeting of members last Thursday, we will be progressing with all preparations for the forecourt redevelopment. The project will be managed by Scott Shelton, with oversight by the Working Group of John Mooney, Neil Sargeant, Peter Demura, Niesje Hees and myself. Works are expected to commence mid-May with completion by September. While the club will be open throughout the refurbishment, there will be some disruption to members, and we will keep you informed throughout the project.
The importance of dredging the marina is well recognised, and the application for the dredging permit has now been completed with the help of our consultants. This required extensive environmental surveys to be completed first.
There are several smaller projects and tasks currently underway around the club.
- CCTV cameras are to be installed on the hardstand and marina. The contractor has been given the go-ahead and has ordered the equipment for installation.
- Options for replacing the flagpole are currently being assessed, having determined that the old flagpole is end of life.
- We will be conducting a Survey of Members in late March 2024 which is designed as a continuation of the survey conducted in 2021. This will be delivered by email.
There is still quite a bit of the sailing season to go, with regattas over two weekends in March, as well as the community organised “Recycle Regatta” on the beachfront in front of the club on 17 March.
Club racing for Keelboats, One Design and OTB boats continues each weekend. The Bliss regatta is always a great day scheduled for 5th May.
Maintenance is always continuing around the club with recent projects like fixed marks tackle replacement, solar panels cleaned, marina walkways replaced and breakdowns taking recent priority.
While the club has a busy year ahead, at the same time we are working closely with the Vice Commodore in planning for 150th anniversary celebration during 2025.
