Sailing Office Update

As we get closer to the end of the year, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on what has happened so far and what we have for 2024.
The sailing office has been kept busy with Wednesday and Saturday Club racing, OTB racing on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons, Weekend Sail Training, School Term Sailing, School Holiday programs, and of course regattas, including Sail Melbourne.
It’s been great to see the number of boats getting involved in all club racing. We have not had the best weather, but this has not stopped sailors from getting on the water and enjoying themselves. A special shout out to the Sunday OTB racing, numbers continue to grow each week with members of other clubs joining in.
Sail training has its usual flow of inquiries and bookings, although we are new to the Keelboat training here on the bay, the word is getting out and we have completed 3 crew courses to date. Our school holiday program is tracking better than last year with many weeks in 2024 almost full and steady enquiries about involvement in the Youth Squads and future opportunities with the club.
Regattas take up a lot of the office’s time and we have just completed another successful Sail Melbourne. This was achieved with a lot of help from club members and race officials/volunteers from around the bay (too many to mention) and now it’s time to look at 2024. January is busy with Stonehaven & the Cadet Centenary regattas 3-7th, VX One Nationals 13 – 19th, and 2.4 Nationals 26-28th, for which we still need to find extra race management volunteers so please contact me if you may be able to help.
Our club racing calendar is also busy and remember to see what coming up. All the details are on the Calendar page.
Regarding the club boats that we use to make all this happen. Our Thursday working group has done a great job making sure that all our “Toys” are ready for use. They also now have a new one to add to this list after the club purchased a Cougar Cat to replace Redeemer which had its first test in Sail Melbourne which it passed with flying colours. If you would like to be involved with this group, then let me know and I can introduce you to the team.
The marina occupancy has also been getting regular inquiries and we have welcomed several new boats from small power boats to large sailing vessels, many of whom have shown interest in joining in on the water.
Overall, we are doing well, and the club is as busy as always, the sailing office is still looking for full-time staff to join the team in the roles of Sailing Coordinator and Training Coordinator so if you know anyone that might fit, please get them to contact me.
See you around the club.
