My name is Marnie Irving, and as of the AGM last week, I have taken over from Brett Heath as Club Captain at RBYC.
My sailing interest began via my kids; cooking sausages for the sabot sailors, carrying 12 foot cadets over the sand from the Jock Sturrock centre, and then tending bruises to a kid falling off 29ers.
It segued into being on the water – sailing on other people’s boats, doing training courses, and then in 2009 buying, with my husband Lou, ‘Cavarlo’, a Cavalier 395.
We have raced her on & off at RBYC, and then for several years did multiple ORCV races including several Melbourne – Hobart races. More recently we have spent time cruising in Tasmania.
My aim is to make boating accessible, in a satisfying and a safe way, to all who wish to be on the water.
Please feel free to contact me to express your ideas about boating at RBYC.
How many of your life memories are related to sailing? Today is a big day for sailing, with the 40th anniversary of the America’s Cup win. Do you remember what you were doing that day?”
