News from GC – Honorary Treasurer

Well, the new season is almost upon us. Some members are having fun up north before returning to serious sailing for next season. As well as the keelboat Saturday and Wednesday winter sailing, the One design fleets have started sailing once a fortnight to get back into the swing of things, and there has been a small training group that ventured out to test their skills on keel boats.
As for myself, I am finishing up the accounts ready to present these at the AGM, to show how the club fared financially over the past year.
The Club has a number of major projects which will continue into the next season. These include the forecourt redevelopment, the dredging of the marina and of course, securing a new seabed lease.
There are ongoing discussions concerning the race tower. Presently, the volunteers need to travel to the tower by boat and there is no power to the tower except for the solar panel which has been erected. This allows for the radios and timing to be run. The Club is investigating alternatives. Fortunately, there are a number of planning sub-committees who are running with these projects.
The Club will shortly be changing over the engines on the Clubs’ fleet of Rhibs. With the exception of RB9 and RB2 all engines will be replaced and rationalised in terms of engine size. This of course will mean that the Club will be looking for a few volunteers to help run in the engines, ten hours of joy running in an engine. Talking of volunteering, if anyone is available on a Saturday or a Sunday to assist in race management, please speak to the Sailing Office,
The Sailing office, Club Captain and Sailing Committee are well prepared for next season and there are briefings for skippers as well as volunteers and coaches. The Clubs’ calendar has been almost locked in and will be available on the web site shortly. Please ensure that all paperwork has been filed online.
One final comment, the more you put into the Club the more pleasure you get out of the club.
