Dear Members
Being involved with the sailing and cruising committees, I will put a slight ‘cruising’ slant in my note to you this week.
Seeing so many people down at the club last Friday night was fantastic. The Cruising Group held the annual Progressive Dinner with our best turnout for a social event in recent times. Nearly 40 participants braved the elements and enjoyed fantastic food and company aboard many of the cruising boats in the marina.
On the water, we have had some hits and misses with the weather, which has impacted numbers, including those boats in Div. C or the Ingenue series. Hopefully, the weather settles, and it will be great to see more boats on the start line as summer approaches. With a promising start to the divisions above last year, I hope we can match the participation or better it this year.
This weekend there will be an Artemis pursuit, and for those interested in a long weekend, we usually would have a Melbourne Cup weekend cruise; with interest in this event limited, I would like to mention that the Goorangai Trophy is being run. Queenscliff Cruising Yacht Club conducts this race with the assistance of Royal Brighton Yacht Club on Saturday, 29 October 2022, starting at 0930hrs from Brighton.
Lastly, I would like to extend an open invitation to all power boat owners to join any Cruising Group events. All our on-water events are open to all types of boats, not just sail, so please consider joining the group for our next on-water event.
I also am looking forward to twilights and weekend racing during the season and to seeing you on the water and around the club.
Have a great week ahead!
