Our next Guest Speaker Dinner will be on Friday August 15th, when John & Jo Walker and Peter & Suzie Strain will let us into the secrets of Cruising the Houtman Abrolhos Islands – Australia’s historic and marine treasure. This promises to be a fascinating look at an historic, but lesser frequented, part of Australia’s coastline. As usual, after gathering in the Members Bar for the weekly announcements and members’ draw at 7:00pm, please join us in the Bayview Room for the dinner and talk.

Bookings are essential for catering purposes. To book, please contact Reception on 9592 3092 or email [email protected] prior to the close of business on Wednesday August 13th.   $40.00 per person is payable on the night, inclusive of a two-course dinner.

Meanwhile Rob Hurrell and his crew of Tony Garvey and Dave Stripp on “Aquacadabra” are on the second leg of the “Sail to Indonesia” rally, heading to Banda, following a week of festivities that were held after they cleared into into Indonesia at Ngiar Warat on the island of Kai Kecil, in the south-eastern Maluku Island group (picture above is the crew with immigration and customs officials at Ngiar Warat).

Rob reports that “We sailed due west for 3 days crossing the Gulf of Carpentaria before heading Northwest for 2 days to the Kai islands. Had to manoeuvre around various fishing boats, one towing a 10nm fishing line/net! Good SE breezes meant very little use of the engine for the 715 nm trip”

Only two boats, “Chakana” and “Kirra Kirra” braved last weekend’s full winter conditions to take part in the annual Frostbite cruise. However, we are told that the eight hardy cruisers who made their way to Docklands had a good sail up in 15 to 25 knots and shared a delicious BBQ meal followed by Christmas pudding and pear pudding.
