Footy Tipping Wk 16

Hi everyone,

We have reached the 2/3 stage of the 24-round season. I’m hoping we start seeing a lot more close games for the rest of the way. This weekend was not particularly exciting from a closeness perspective.

On the field

Carlton travelled to Adelaide for the Thursday night game and put in another insipid performance. The Blues did not kick a goal until the 26-minute mark of the second quarter, making life easy for the hometown Power, who cruised to a 50-point victory. Friday night’s game from the SCG was the best match of the round. The Western Bulldogs slipped away to a 28-point lead in the second quarter, but the hometown Swans fought back strongly. They couldn’t quite bridge the gap, however, and their rally fell short. Final score:  Bulldogs 16.9.105 defeated Swans 14.12.96.

On Saturday, the Gold Coast Suns bounced back to defeat the visiting Melbourne Demons, 15.14.104 to 12.13.85. Hawthorn crushed a disappointing North Melbourne in Launceston. The final margin was 85 points. Jack Gunston booted seven goals for the winners. On Saturday night, Collingwood played the West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The Magpies turned an eight-point halftime deficit into a 29-point victory.

On Sunday, the visiting Adelaide Crows moved up to third on the ladder when they made short work of Richmond at the MCG. The final in this one was a Crows victory over the Tigers by 68 points. In the final game from Perth Stadium, St Kilda almost caused an upset, but Fremantle finished strongly in the final quarter to fend off the challenge. The final score was Dockers 11.15.81 over the Saints 9.15.69.

Tipping: Everybody scored well this week and congratulations to a multitude of tipsters who achieved a perfect score of 7/7. Very well done to all of you. Gazza and Romo each win a $20.00 dining credit at the club by being closest on the margin game amongst those who tipped seven. They each predicted a 30-point win for Port Adelaide and were 20 points off the mark. At the top of our leaderboard, Heaver 13 retains his two-point lead.
