Hi everyone,
On the field: The first two games of this round were decided by 41 points. On Thursday night, Fremantle hosted Essendon and recorded their fifth straight win to keep themselves in the top eight. On Friday night, Geelong hosted Brisbane. Most pundits tipped the Cats to win… they were playing at home, the game marked Patrick Dangerfield’s 350th in his storied career, and the Lions had not won at the Cattery since 2003. None of those things mattered on this night as Brisbane stormed to a comfortable victory to move back to second place on the ladder behind Collingwood.
Woe is Carlton. The Blues’ below-expectation season continued on Saturday when they lost to North Melbourne. The final margin of 11 points flattered the Blues, who trailed by over 40 points at one point in this game. Final score, North 13.6.84 defeated Carlton 10.13.73. Sydney is starting to get its mojo back after an encouraging performance versus Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon. The Swans were in control all day, despite their inaccurate kicking, winning 9.17.71 to 7.10.52. St Kilda showed plenty of fight against ladder leaders Collingwood at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night. The Magpies proved too good, however, and a four-goal final quarter sealed their 34-point win.
On Sunday, GWS came from the clouds in the final quarter (again!) and this time overran the visiting Gold Coast Suns by a score of 16.10.106 to 14.15.99. The Suns’ loss, coupled with the Western Bulldogs’ 79-point victory over Richmond in the final game, sees the Gold Coast drop out of the eight for the first time this season.
Tipping
There has been minimal movement near the top of our leaderboard over the last few rounds, as the leading tipsters are tipping the same teams each week. This was not a good week for tipping, with the site average being about 4 out of 7. Congrats to Ingilby Dickson and Barney2, who both managed six winners this round to lead the way.
