Footy Tipping

Hi tipsters,

On the field: In the lopsided games, Port Adelaide rebounded from last week’s shellacking by Collingwood to crush Richmond by 72 points. It was a stellar weekend for the South Australian teams as the Adelaide Crows blasted Essendon at the MCG by 61 points. North Melbourne stunned Melbourne, racing away from the Dees in the second half to win by 59 points. The Roos have struggled in recent seasons, but their Sunday win suggests they will be much improved in 2025.

Last Thursday night, Carlton challenged Hawthorn during the first half but fell away after halftime for the second week in a row as the Hawks rolled to a 20-point victory. The Western Bulldogs celebrated their 100th season in the league in their Friday night game versus Collingwood. The Bullies came up just short, losing by 6 points. Bulldogs’ supporters felt (understandably) aggrieved that the free kick count went Collingwood’s way by about 2 to 1 in this game. In a significant upset, St Kilda held on to edge Geelong 15.8.98 to 13.13.91 on Saturday night. The Cats were heavy favorites to win this game, and while they did rally from 41 points down in the third quarter, they weren’t quite able to achieve a miracle comeback. It was a terrific response from the Sainters after they were embarrassed by the Crows in Round 1.

West Coast also improved significantly this week after their poor outing during their home opener. The Eagles travelled to Brisbane and were in front for most of the game before the defending premiers rallied strongly in the final quarter to win by 19 points. Fremantle hosted Sydney in the final match of the round, with both teams looking to record their first win for the season. It was a very close game that saw the Swans emerge victorious 9.14.68 to 9.11.65.
