Sail Melbourne Review

Perhaps you were at the club some time over the last four days, and saw some action.
Some of you will have participated, either as competitors, or as volunteers with race management, or as helpers on the beach. Some will have casually dropped by for a coffee or a swim. All will have been struck by the vibrancy, the level of concentration and activity, the involvement of sailors school-age, young adult, and much older. The yard, and carpark, were chock-a-block with Off The Beach craft (210 entrants from all around Australia & NZ & countries much further afield); the cafe was crowded; the beach was full of trailers; the Start boats, the rescue boats, the mark-laying boats from five clubs were manning four different race courses.
The Sail Melbourne Regatta is important at an elite sailing level. Olympians Grae Morris and Zoe Thomson spoke at the presentation on Sunday afternoon, and Grae was surrounded by little Opti sailors taking turns holding his silver medal from Paris 2024. It is also important for providing experience for all competitive sailors and for Race Officers. It provided four days of intense racing atmosphere at RBYC.
The classes competing were 2.4mR, Liberty, Hansa, Tasar, Optimist Open & Intermediate, 470, 29er, RS100, ILCA7, 6 & 4, Kite Foil, and IQ Foil Open Men, Women, Youth & Junior. A number of RBYC competitors featured on the podium, and we offer our sincere congratulations.
