Report From GC Member Greg Clinnick

Some recent interactions with new crew members has reminded me that the sport of sailing is more about the people than it is about the boats we sail on.

I have had the good fortune to sail on everything from a mirror dingy to a Volvo 70 over the past 40+ years and it’s the friendships that have evolved through shared experiences that I value the most. A delivery, a regatta, a club race, sailing overseas, being on the start line of a Sydney to Hobart. These are the experiences that forge life long bonds and give you mates who you can rely on, whatever the situation. And it never stops unless you let it.

I recently contacted some folks via the crew matching tab on the RBYC sign on app and had a very positive experience recruiting a new bowman. A similar experience by participating in the KISS ladies training program. Two new regular crew. What they lack in experience they make up for in attitude and they are learning fast.

I encourage all boat owners to keep inviting new people on board. It’s a win win situation and it will help us grow our membership and get more boats out sailing.

See you on the water.
