GC Report – Peter Coleman

Hello fellow members.

I witnessed on Saturday a perfect example of what our club is all about.

What I saw was all the VX ONE’s in the water with a lot of youth sailors and coaches getting changed to go out. I do not recall ever seeing the VX Ones in the water before 1pm and I was shocked. The VX One fleet and sailing office organized a day event for youth sailors to sail this ever-increasing fleet, this is the type of super-fast boat that people of all ages love to sail. 9 boats, 30 sailors, owners donated the boats, organised, and ran the event. 6 races, all youth sailors/ club coaches.

David Williamson donated the trophy/plaque at the end of the event. Tom LeGrice drove the event, which was hugely successful and run to perfection, a credit to the fleet, the sailing office and the club.

It was a busy sailing weekend with the ORCV double handed race on Sunday (well done Tony Hennessy in Joan Allen for a great PHS result), our team doing well in the Commodores Challenge at Sandringham(see article later in this newsletter) and the ILCA’s out on Sunday as well.

Another initiative is the return of the SMART Sailing courses. Many years ago, Rosie and team did these which was hugely successful so it is marvellous to see it return. I believe it came about via the social committee and due credit to Susan Cassidy to fire it up again which was a huge effort. See the advertising from the sailing office who are putting it all together, this will be great.

The Etchells Worlds Organising Committee chaired by Peter Robson has got the January 2025 Etchells Worlds well in hand and entries are already coming in which is fabulous news.

The ORCV Apollo Bay race is on the last Saturday of May with Another Chapter and Blue Water Tracks from our club competing, safe trip to both teams.

See you at the club
